GroundBreaking: The Met gala: fashion’s biggest (event) disappointment

Lunedì 4 Maggio, ha avuto luogo un importantissimo evento: il Gala del Met, una raccolta fondi annuale a favore del Costume Institute del Metropolitan Museum a New York. Ogni anno, il gala celebra il tema dell’annuale mostra di moda. Quest’anno il tema era “China, through the looking glass”, il quale mira ad esplorare l’impatto dell’estetica cinese sulla moda occidentale. Vestiti di Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Roberto Cavalli, Dior e di altri grandissimi stilisti sono esposti come parte della mostra. Ad ogni modo, come tutti noi sappiamo, tutti gli occhi erano puntati sul tappetto rosso: chi ha indossato cosa? Ovviamente, il tema era molto complicato, ma tutto ciò che sentivo mentre guardavo i diversi outfit sfilare sul tappeto rosso era enorme, devastante, gigante delusione. A volte mi piace pensare che io sarei davvero un ospite migliore al Met: almeno proverei a seguire le linee guida, il tema. Non indosserei mai Michael Kors o H&M al Gala del Met (sì, Sarah Jessica Parker e Kate Hudson, sto parlando a voi). Mi sembra quasi come se alcune star siano state costrette ad indossare certi abiti. Alcune star, come sappiamo, hanno stipulato accordi con case di moda e devono indossare i vestiti di certi determinati brand ad ogni evento mondano (Jennifer Lawrence, ne ho abbastanza di te e Dior, seriamente), ma per quanto riguarda altre star, mi è impossibile non ~~pensare~~ sperare che fossero completamente ubriache mentre sceglievano cosa indossare. Inoltre, penso che molti designer, che sarebbero state al contrario ottime scelte per la serata, siano stati completamente ignorati. Dov'erano tutti gli Armani (che ha iniziato a fare collezioni inspirare all’Asia ben prima che fosse cool), e gli YSL? Per non menzionare i pochi Valentino.

On Monday the 4th May, took place a really important event: the Met Gala, an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in NYC. Every year, the gala celebrates the theme of the annual fashion exhibit’s. This year, the topic was “China, through the looking glass”, which aims to explore the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion. Clothing pieces by Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Roberto Cavalli, Dior and many other great designers are being displayed as part of the exhibition. However, we all know that all eyes were on the red carpet: who wore what? Obviously, the topic was really tricky, but all I felt while I was watching the red carpet outfits was huge, immense, enormous disappointment. Sometimes I like to think that I would actually make such a better guest for the gala: I would at least try to follow the guidelines and the topic. I would have never worn Michael Kors or H&M to the Met Gala (yes, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson, I’m talking to you). It almost looks to me likes some stars were actually forced to wear certain gowns. Some stars, as we know, have made agreements with fashion giants and have to wear the brand’s creation at every social event (Jennifer Lawrence, I’m so done with you and Dior, seriously), but when it comes to other stars I simply can’t help ~~thinking~~ hoping that they were totally drunk when they chose what to wear. Moreover, I feel like some designers were completely ignored, while, indeed, they would have been a very suitable choice. Were where all the Armanis (who started doing Asian-inspired collections before it was cool), and the YSLs? Not to mention the really few Valentinos.
